Dictyostelium Discoideum
Dictyostelium discoideum is a soil-dwelling slime mold that bridges the gap between single- and multicellular life. It grows as independent cells while feeding on bacteria and aggregates into multicellular structures when nutrients are scarce, forming fruiting bodies and spores. This unique life cycle makes D. discoideum a key model for studying cell signalling, development and differentiation.
