In December, The Royal Holloway University of London will be hosting the 2024 Dictyostelium meeting. This is a training event for young scientists working with the model organism Dictyostelium.
Dictyostelium discoideum is a social amoeba, used by researchers in range of fields of biology. These areas include biomedical sciences, ecology and evolutions, developmental biology and genetics. The model provides numerous advantages for research including a haploid, fully sequenced genome and the ability to quickly ablate single or multiple genes. The UK is one of the leading countries worldwide for Dictyostelium research, with research centres including London, Oxford, Cambridge, Sheffield, Dundee, Hull and Warrick. In addition, the EU also has a large contingent of Dictyostelium researchers from countries including Germany, Spain, and Sweden. As such, communication within the Dictyostelium research community remains essential for ongoing world-leading research. This small meeting will provide an important training event for young and junior scientists working in the field of Dictyostelium biology. The meeting will allow these scientists to present their research (via oral presentations or posters), to discuss their work within their peer group and with senior colleagues, and to network to support future career development.
Formedium are proud to be a sponsor of the meeting and have been associated with Dictyostelium discoideum for many years.
